Step-by-step guide

Secure the vehicle
Use a car jack to lift the front of the vehicle. Firmly place the stands beneath to ensure it's secure. Always remember to wear your safety glasses and mechanic's gloves for safety.

Remove the steering wheel
First, remove the horn button by twisting it in an anticlockwise direction. Use the ratchet and a suitable socket to remove the steering wheel nut. After the nut is out, remove the steering wheel by rocking it from side to side until it's loose.

Dismantle the steering column
Locate and disconnect the wiring harness for the column switches. Use the Philips screwdriver to loosen and subsequently remove the screws that hold the column to the dash.

Examine and Repair the column
Carefully examine the internals of the column. Check bushings, gears, and bearings for wear. Replace with new parts as needed. Be sure to lubricate all gears and bearings before reassembling.

Reassemble the steering column
Reinstall the steering column to the dash using the screws you previously removed. Connect the wiring harness back into the switches on the column.

Refit the steering wheel
Refit the wheel by locating it onto its spline and then tightening the nut using a suitable socket and ratchet. Remember to refit the horn button by screwing it clockwise into position.
