Vehicle Repair Guide: Changing Brake Pads on a 2015 Honda Civic
One common problem with the 2015 Honda Civic is worn-out brake pads. This guide will walk you through the steps to replace them.
Tools You Will Need
- Socket set
- Car jack
- C-clamp
- New brake pads
- Lug wrench
- Brake caliper tool
- Brake pad lubricant
Steps
- Prepare Your Car: Use your lug wrench to slightly loosen the lug nuts on the front tires. Do not remove them completely. Once loosened, use your car jack to lift the front of the vehicle off the ground.
- Remove the Tires: Finish removing the lug nuts, then pull the tire off the car to expose the brake mechanism.
- Remove the Brake Caliper: Using your socket set, locate the bolts on the back of the caliper (the clamp-like structure around the brake disc) and remove them. Once the bolts are removed, you should be able to slide the caliper off the disc.
- Replace the Brake Pads: Remove the old brake pads from the caliper. Apply the brake pad lubricant to the backs of the new brake pads (do not apply it to the friction surface that touches the disc). Insert the new pads into the caliper.
- Reassemble: Slide the caliper (now with the new brake pads) back over the disc and fasten it by replacing the bolts. Put your tire back on and tighten the lug nuts as much as you can while the car is still jacked up.
- Lower Your Car: Lower the car using the jack. Once the car is on the ground, tighten the lug nuts thoroughly. Repeat the process described above for the other tire.
Note
Make sure to check your car's manual before starting this process, as some models may have unique requirements or steps. Always prioritize safety when working on your vehicle.
